Slumdog Millionaire is this year’s breakout independant film hit. It even won the Academy Award for Best Picture, which is really saying a lot. Many people would agree that Slumdog Millionaire is the best film of the year. Of course, you could argue the same about The Dark Knight, but a comic book film isn’t allowed to win such high prestige. Regardless, Slumdog Millionaire is a big hit and is the first chance that a Bollywood style film can hit it big in the United States. Slumdog Millionaire tells the tale of Jamal, a young man who goes on to Who Wants To Be a Millionaire to hopefully strike it rich and in the process regain his lost love. He is accused of cheating and spends the night recounting his life to the police. In the process he explains how he was able to know the answers. In the end it all comes down to the one final question for one million dollars. |

Actual Customer Feedback: "I pre-ordered this DVD and before it arrived Fox Searchlight or Sony or the make of this DVD contacted Amazon to let them know some defective copies without the advertised Special Features had accidentally been mailed to custimers. It had a website and 1-800 number to call if you were said customer. I was, and I did both. The phone number was a joke, could not get through to an operator. So I went to the website, answered 4 questions. I can only assume correctly because they asked for my contact and mailing info. Then for weeks I heard nothing. I went back to try to contact them and they've completely changed the website adding several more hoops to jump through. (I have no idea why I was asked to jump through the first few hoops and never contacted about the newly added ones?) I contacted Amazon with my grievance and they want nothing to do with me or this DVD. My advice, order somewhere that has better customer service than Amazon...They do absolutely nothing to insure you are receiving the product you paid for. " -Customer Review on Amazon.com "The actors made what would otherwise have been an average film into something quite interesting. The police chief, the game show host, and the actor who played Jamal really kept it moving but Salim was not that believable." -Customer Review on Amazon.com "This movie is disgusting, not uplifting. Every adult character is a brutal stereotype, the kids are all hyperactive acting, and the protagonist just stares with a blank look on his face the whole time. I hated it." -Customer Review on Amazon.com "But what we got were some very cute kids down on their luck, and a great performance by 'Jamal' in all three iterations. The little girl was great too. The actors really made this film. The ending was pure Bollywood, but I thought it was disrespectful to the dead Salim.
"I was very surprised by this movie. I merely rented it because my wife wanted to see it. But from the first moment on I was entranced. The story is of a slumdog who is on India's "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" and manages to get the questions right. He is picked up by the police who doubt an uneducated child of the streets could know the answer, therefore he must be cheating. Through flashbacks that cut back and forth between then and current time on the show, the viewer is shown how he knows each answer and why. It is both an uplifting story, and a tragic one. I wish that is was completely fiction, and not based on the real sad lives of the children on India's streets. Very good movie." -Customer Review on Amazon.com Slumdog Millionaire is a movie that won a lot of critical acclaim this year and most people seem to agree that this is an excellent film. However, it isn't a perfect film and some people find it to be a bit overrated. The feeling is that while the movie does feel fresh and new, it might not live up to the hype. Nevertheless, it is worth watching for sure. |
