It is a good idea to use this, rather than having to rub your fingers across the bare screen in order to give the Ipod commands. The screen cover also helps protect the Ipod screen from damage and prevents UV rays from reflecting from the screen. The small polishing cloth that comes in the package is very handy, as well. I would have given this item 5 stars, but I had difficulty putting the screen cover on and not causing air bubbles. For the protection this item gives and the unbelievably excellent price, I will live with the air bubbles, rather than have my Ipod screen unprotected. You cannot go wrong with this item, even if you are not the handiest person applying the screen protector, alike myself, and you wind up with a few air bubbles between the Ipod screen and the screen protector.
